Women's Golf Opens Spring Tied For 13th Place in Arizona

Sarah Eversman leads Creighton in spring debut
PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Sarah Eversman tied for 31st to lead the Creighton women's golf team to a tie for 13th place at the GCU Invitational in Phoenix, Ariz., on Sunday. The competition was Creighton's first of the spring.
The meet featured 15 teams and 85 players on GCU Championship Golf Course, which measured 6,110 yards and was a Par 72 course.
A Scottsdale, Ariz., native, Eversman turned in a pair of 77s on Saturday before wrapping up her play with a 76 to tie for 31st place with a 230 total. She has now led CU in five of six meets during the 2017-18 school year.
Freshmen Margaret Hickey (84-74-76=234, T-43rd) and Amelia Lee (79-78-84=241, T-65th) followed Eversman on the Bluejay scorecards.
Rachel Grenko followed up an 82 and 84 on Saturday with a final round 78 to tie for 73rd with a 244 aggregate, and Caroline Lake rounded out the scoring with rounds of 82, 83 and 84 to tie for 80th with a 249 total.
Competing as an individual but not factoring into the Bluejay team score was Sydney Gillespie. The junior from Highlands Ranch, Colo., put forth rounds of 82, 77 and 82 to tie for 65th with 241 strokes overall.
Creighton's club compiled rounds of 320, 312 and 314 to finish with a 946 overall, 59 strokes behind meet champion Portland State (296-304-287=887). MSU's Kelly Hooper won meet medalist honors in a playoff over Utah Valley's Carly Dehlin after consecutive birdies on No. 18 in a two-hole playoff.
Creighton returns to the course on March 5-6 at the UTRGV Invitational in McAllen, Texas.
