Women's Golf Goes Low at MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial

Three Jays in the top 10
SPRINGFIELD, Mo.- The Creighton women's golf team played in the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial held at Twin Oaks Country Club and were breaking personal records left and right. The Bluejays fared well on this course, shooting an 896 over 54 holes, which put it in sixth place out of the 11 teams that played.
Leading the charge for the Bluejays was senior Morgan Becker. Her three rounds of 70-71-76 landed her a fourth-place finish in the field of 62 players. These scores also earned her a new collegiate tournament personal record with a 54-hole score of 217. She also set a new personal low round tournament score by shooting a one-under 70 in the first round.
Playing as an individual, Katharine Marshall produced the next best score on the Creighton squad. Getting better with each round, the junior recorded scores of 74-73-71 for the week. She bested her 54-hole tournament best by six shots as she tied for fifth overall in the field with a total of 218.
The second counting score for the Creighton team came from sophomore Julia Karmazin, who earned a seventh-place tie with loops of 76-72-71. Karmazin shot a 219 and had 10 birdies over the course of the three-round tournament.
Tying her own 54-hole scoring best was junior Karsen Morrison. The North Platte native shot scores of 75-75-78, which put her in 28th place with an aggregate of 228 for the event.
Kayla Maletto tied for 35th with scores of 79-75-78 which beat her 54-hole scoring best by 16 shots. The sophomore from Pennsylvania shot her lowest single round score as a Bluejay as well with the 75 that she posted in the second round.
Madison Murnan posted scores of 81-77-79 which topped her freshman debut from the last tournament by six shots. Her 237 total put her in a tie for 47th place for the tournament.
Missouri State won the tournament and posted a team score of 866 after 54-holes with Wichita State coming in second with 15 shots more and posting an 881. The Par 71 course played its longest at 6,126 yards and had an average score of 77.09. Nami Luesattha of Odessa defeated Missouri State's Chloe Bolte on the first hole of a sudden death playoff for medalist honors after both women finished 3-under for the 54 hole event.
The Bluejays will tee it up again in the Diane Thomason Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa on September 29th and 30th.
