Sarah Eversman leads CU with a tie for 25th place
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Sarah Eversman tied for 25th place to lead the Creighton Women's Golf team to a ninth-place finish at the Kansas City Shootout, which concluded on Monday at Shoal Creek Golf Club.
Eversman put together rounds of 77, 82 and 81 to tally a 240 total, the fourth straight spring meet she's been Creighton's top performer. It's also a five-shot improvement over her score in the same meet from a year ago, when she tied for 66th.
Sophomore Caroline Lake was the team's second-best finisher, as her 248 total (87-80-81) was good for a tie for 41st place. Classmate Kelsey Johnson was one shot back with a 249 (86-79-84), tying for 45th place. A third Bluejay sophomore, Sydney Gillespie, shot a 250 after loops of 85, 83 and 82 to tie for 47th place in the field.
Rounding out CU's team scorers was senior Kelsey Petersen, who placed 56th with rounds of 92, 81 and 85 to tally a 258 overall.
Senior Annie Pearson competed as an individual and did not factor in the Bluejay score after shooting 82, 84 and 91 to place 55th with a 257 total.
Northern Illinois won the meet against a 10-team field, which featured 62 golfers and was held on the par-72 Shoal Creek Golf Club course that measured 6,059 yards. The Huskies had five golfers in the top-15, including third-place finishers Brielle Ward and Lena Gautier. The Huskies team score of 919 was seven shots ahead of runner-up Wichita State. The Shockers were paced by meet medalist Taryn Torgerson, who fired 70, 77 and 77 to record a 224 score and top the field by three shots.
Creighton closes out the spring on April 21-23 at the BIG EAST Championships in Okatie, S.C.
