Jays win eighth match of the spring
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton men's tennis team won its second straight match, defeating South Dakota State by a 6-1 score at Hanscom Indoor Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
The victory improved Creighton to 8-9 on the season, and avenged a 4-3 setback against the Jackrabbits (12-11) last year.
Three Bluejays were part of a pair of victories on Friday, Alex Koca, Brooks Kendall and Quinn Dippel.
Koca and Kendall clinched the doubles point at No. 2 doubles with a 7-5 victory. That came after Dippel and Aaron Chalstrom cruised to a 6-1 triumph at No. 3 doubles.
Dippel dominated Henrique Pereira at No. 2 singles before SDSU won its lone point with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 5 doubles to draw the Jackrabbits within one. CU responded with a 6-3, 75- win by Harrison Lang at No. 3 singles before Jake Glazer clinched the Bluejay victory with a 7-6, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles. Lang leads CU with 11 singles victories this spring and has won his last three outings.
Koca won his match at No.1 singles over Lovro Curcija by a 6-2, 6-4 score, gaining revenge after losing to Curcija last season in straight sets. Kendall closed out the victory with a win in the lone three-set match of the afternoon, a 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 decision over Mateus Moreira.
Creighton will close the regular-season on Saturday at 4 pm when it hosts Hastings College, also at Hanscom Indoor Tennis Center.
