Women's Soccer Nipped By South Dakota State, 3-2

Omaha, Neb. -- After forcing overtime with a goal in the final minute of regulation, the Creighton women's soccer squad fell to South Dakota State in overtime 3-2 on Sunday, Sept. 3.
The loss dropped the Bluejays to 0-5-0 on the season, while South Dakota State moved to 2-3-1.
The Bluejays got on the board first in the fifth minute as sophomore Kylin Grubb headed in a crossing pass from sophomore Emma Braasch from 12 yards.
Creighton held its 1-0 edge through halftime and well into the second period. South Dakota State, however, took the action to the Bluejays in the second period, firing off nine attempts in the final 45 minutes. The Jackrabbits' pressure yielded two goals on free kicks.
South Dakota State's first tally came in the 74th minute as Kelsi Wipf blasted a goal in from 30 yards away on a free kick. The Jackrabbits surged ahead in a similar fashion as Annie Williams' free kick from 25 yards slipped through in the 85th minute.
Creighton responded in the final minute of regulation as sophomore Kate Johnson's ball was deflected into the net by sophomore Jaylin Bosak in the 90th minute at the 89:24 mark.
Early in the extra session South Dakota State took the match with a goal off the foot of Leah Manuleleua as she sent a pass from Tori Poole into the back of the net in the 93rd minute.
South Dakota State outshot Creighton 15 to 8 in the match, including 11-2 after the first half.
Creighton returns to the pitch on Friday, Sept. 8 as the Bluejays battle UMKC in Creighton's annual Socctoberfest celebration at 5:00 pm. The men's team will battle South Florida at 7:30 pm in the second half of the doubleheader.
