Bluejays won all three of their matches during the final day of the invite
DES MOINES, Iowa -- Ashley Ishimura and Erin Epperson claimed the Doubles Flight A Championship to highlight the Creighton women's tennis team's final day at the Drake Invitational at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
Ishimura and Epperson trailed Augustana's Korneila Staniszewska and Berkley Darr, 6-7, but held off two-straight match points to force a tiebreaker. The Bluejay duo won the tiebreaker 7-2 to earn the Flight A title.Â
Darby Rosette and Kendra Lavallee claimed the Doubles Flight B Consolation championship with an 8-6 win over Nebraska-Omaha's Michelle Walker and Emily Behling.Â
Michaela Henne earned a three-set victory over Janelle Wilson (Nebraska-Omaha) during the consolation semifinal match. Henne fell 5-7 in the opening set before forcing a deciding third set with a 6-2 win in set number two. Henne outdueled Wilson in the final set 10-8. Henne defaulted the consolation finals match because of a wrist injury.Â
"I was proud of the way our team competed with class and effort this weekend," head coach Tom Lilly said. "To come away with the top doubles flight title as well as some solid consolation wins was impressive today. Ashley and Erin played great in that breaker to take the championship."Â
Creighton returns to the courts and will host the Bluejay Invitational Sept. 29-Oct. 1 at the Koch Family Tennis Center.Â
