Women's Soccer Opens Exhibition Schedule With 1-0 Loss To Minnesota

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton women's soccer team opened its exhibition schedule with a 1-0 loss to Minnesota on Sunday afternoon at Morrison Stadium.
Minnesota's April Bockin scored the game-winning goal during the 65th minute. Bockin dribbled the ball from the left side of the pitch towards the top of the 18-yard box where she fired the ball into the back of the net.
McKenzie Meola, Elizabeth Bolland and Katie Sullivan each saw action in goal for the Bluejays. The trio combined to make five saves.
Minnesota ended the match with a 23-2 advantage in shots and 9-0 in corner kicks. Taryn Jakubowski recorded each of Creighton's shots, including one on goal.
The Golden Gophers are ranked No. 19 in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Top 25 Poll that was released on Aug. 4.
Sunday's match marked the first of two exhibition matches for the Bluejays. Creighton will host Hastings in an exhibition match on Aug. 13 for a final tune-up before the Bluejays open the regular-season with four road matches, beginning with a contest in Ames, Iowa against Iowa State on Aug. 18.
