Madison, Wis. -- Despite a career-high 11 saves from sophomore McKenzie Meola, the Creighton women's soccer squad dropped a 2-0 contest at Wisconsin on Thursday, Aug. 24.
The loss dropped the Bluejays to 0-2-0 on the season, while Wisconsin moved to 2-1-0 overall.
Wisconsin controlled possession for the majority of the first half as the Badgers held a 10-0 shot edge, but Meola was phenomenal with seven saves in the opening 45 minutes to keep the contest scoreless at the break.
The Badgers pushed across the first goal of the match in the 53rd minute of play as Cameron Murtha sent a pass from Alexis Tye into the back of the net. Wisconsin added to its lead with 71:14 showing on the clock as Dani Rhodes delivered an unassisted goal.
The Bluejays closed the match with four shots, while Wisconsin sent 24 towards the net.
"Absolutely hate losing but these games are necessary for us to get to where we want this year and beyond," said head coach Ross Paule. "Wisconsin is a very deep good team, that physically outmatched us tonight. We need to do many things better, learn from our mistakes and are willing to do it.
