Men's Soccer Downs Wisconsin 1-0 During Road Exhibition Match

Marios Lomis provided the game-winning goal for the Bluejays during the 59th minute
MADISON, Wis. – The No. 14 Creighton men's soccer team defeated the Wisconsin Badgers 1-0 on Wednesday night during an exhibition match at the McClimon Soccer Complex in Madison, Wis.
Players from both squads faced rainy conditions throughout the match.
Creighton forward Marios Lomis provided the game-winning goal during the second half. The Bennebroek, Netherlands, native, found the back of the net during the 59th minute to break a scoreless tie and give the Bluejays a one-goal edge.
After an evenly played first half, Creighton controlled possession during the final 45 minutes.
The Bluejays had only four shots during the first 45 minutes but fired off three during the first six minutes of the second half, forcing the Wisconsin goalkeeper to make a pair of saves. The Bluejays outshot the Badgers 14-4 during the second half, and ended the match with an 18-7 edge in shots, including 8-1 in shots on goal.
Wisconsin's Philipp Schilling made eight saves, while Creighton's Michael Kluver needed to make only one second-half save to preserve the shutout.
The Bluejays had their best opportunity to extend the lead during the 65th minute. Anthony Macchione fired two shots and Joel Rydstrand added one during a 25-second span to keep the pressure on the Wisconsin defense.
Junior Anthony Macchione recorded a match-high six shots, including three on goal, while Joel Rydstrand tallied four shots, two on goal.
Creighton hosts Ohio State on Saturday night to conclude the exhibition portion of the schedule. Kickoff for Saturday's match at Morrison Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
