
Three Bluejays Named To All-BIG EAST Softball Teams

Sam Dellinger named to First team, Aujanae McCoy and Ashley Cantu honored on Second Team
Dellinger is the third different Bluejay to make the All-BIG EAST First Team, and the first since Liz Dike in 2015.Â
Dellinger led Creighton in hits (52), doubles (13), home runs (10), RBIs (42), total bases (95) and slugging percentage (.617). She also held the third-best batting average at .338 in a team-high 154 at-bats. Across the BIG EAST, Dellinger led all freshman in hits, doubles, home runs, total bases and slugging percentage. She also ranked second overall among all league players in RBIs, third in total bases, fifth in both home runs and slugging percentage, sixth in doubles and seventh in hits.

During 21 BIG EAST contests, the Papillion-La Vista product led the conference with 27 RBIs and tied for third in the league with six long balls. Dellinger played 15 BIG EAST games in left field and did not commit in error in 21 chances.

The freshman was one of two Bluejays to start all 50 games this season, with 28 starts in left field, 15 at designated player, seven in the circle and two at third base.

Freshman outfielder Ashley Cantu led Creighton with a .346 batting average and 30 runs scored. During BIG EAST play, Cantu hit .400, which ranked third in the conference. Her .456 on-base percentage during conference games led the Bluejays and ranked 10th in the league. The Frisco, Texas native, hit seven doubles, two triples and one home run while driving in 14 runs during 38 total starts. Cantu hit in the lead-off spot 25 times during the 2017 campaign, including during 17 BIG EAST games.Â
Senior infielder Aujanae McCoy hit .347 and held a .439 on-base percentage during league action. McCoy started all 21 BIG EAST games at second base and recorded 55 putouts and 19 assists. The senior also recorded a team-high 12 stolen bases during 50 total games played (48 starts).Â
Creighton finished the season 18-32 overall and ended in sixth place in the BIG EAST.
