Omaha, Neb. -- The Creighton Baseball team suffered a 4-0 defeat by Nebraska in the Bluejays' third shutout loss of the season on Wednesday, May 10.
The loss moved Creighton to 22-19 on the season, while Nebraska improved to 30-16-1.
Nebraska scratched the scoreboard for the first time in the third, getting a leadoff walk to Luis Altavila, a single by Scott Schreiber that sent Altavilla to third and an RBI ground out from Luke Roskam.
The Huskers added two more in the fifth as Jake Meyers was hit by a pitch, moved to second on a passed ball and scored via an RBI single from Altavilla. The second run came on a wild pitch that moved Altavilla to second and an RBI single from Ben Miller,
Creighton's best scoring chance came in the bottom half of the frame. Freshman Jason Allbery opened the inning with a double off the wall in left, but was stranded at third.
Nebraska tacked on an insurance run in the eighth when Luis Alvaradio tripled and scored on a fielder's choice from Jake Schleppenbach.
Husker starter Ethan Frazier picked up the win (2-0), holding the Bluejays scoreless on five hits in four innings of work. Creighton starter Austin Stroschein took the loss (1-1), allowing three runs on five hits in 4.1 innings.
Creighton returns to action on Friday, May 12 as the Bluejays host McNeese State in the first of three games. Friday's contest will be Creighton's Cox Kids Day as children from the Omaha area will fill the stadium courtesy of Cox Communications.
