CAYCE, S.C. -- The Creighton women's tennis season ended its season with a 4-1 loss against Marquette on Saturday during the back draws at the BIG EAST Championships in Cayce, S.C.
The Bluejays ended the 2017 spring season with a 13-11 record.
Marquette opened Saturday's match by taking the No. 2 and 3 doubles matches to claim the doubles point.
In singles action, the Golden Eagles won at the No. 3 and 1 singles positions to take a 3-0 advantage overall.
Michaela Henne won in straight-sets at No. 2 singles for her team-leading 18th singles victory, and cut the deficit to 3-1. The sophomore's 6-3, 6-2 was Creighton's lone win. Henne also defeated Diana Tokar at the No. 2 slot on April 8 in Omaha when Marquette downed the Bluejays 6-1.
The Golden Eagles' 6-1, 7-5 win at the No. 4 singles slot clinched the overall dual.
"It was once again a competitive match against a strong Marquette team," head coach Tom Lilly said. "We could have played a little better at a few spots, but I enjoyed the way we fought this week.
"This was the most talented women's team I have coached, and we will miss Katherine and Hylan a lot."
Creighton ended the 2017 spring season above .500 for the first time since the 2014 dual season when the team finished 11-10.
Seniors Katherine Nelsen and Hylan Miller each played in their final collegiate match on Saturday.
Nelsen ended her career with 103 victories at Creighton, including 54 in singles and 49 in doubles actions. Her 103 combined victories ranks 11th in program history, 54 singles wins is tied for 13th, and 49 doubles victories is the 10th-best mark in Creighton women's tennis history.
Miller earned 26 wins with 13 singles and 13 doubles victories during her only spring season with the Bluejay tennis program. Her 13 doubles victories with Claire Embree led the team.
