Omaha, Neb. --Â Opening a stretch of seven games in eight days, the Creighton Baseball team dropped a 12-1 decision to UC Davis on Sunday, March 26.
The loss pushed the Bluejays to 5-12 on the season, while the Aggies moved to 6-10.
Bluejay starter Rollie Lacy had difficulty spotting his pitches early, leaving the ball to high in the zone. The result was three UC Davis runs in the first and four more in the third, Lacy took the loss (1-2) as he allowed seven runs on 10 hits in two innings of work.
Creighton's offense pushed across a run in the third as the bottom third of the order connected for three consecutive hits. Freshman Will Robertson got things started with a single through the right side, then fellow freshman Jason Allbery smacked a double to left. The third consecutive hit also came from a freshman as Parker Upton bounced an RBI single up the middle. The inning, however, ended quickly on a pop out and a liner to second that turned into a double play.
The Bluejays saw three different innings ended with men on base by a line drive that was snagged by an Aggie and quickly doubled off a Creighton runner.
UC Davis starter Orlando Razzo earned the win (3-2), allowing one run on four hits in six innings. Reliever Robert Garcia picked up his first save of the season with three scoreless innings to close out the contest.
Creighton and UC Davis will continue their three-game series on Monday, March 27 at 6:30 pm.
