Friars and Bluejays Match Long Range Strengths
A big part of both Creighton's and Providene's offense is the three-point shot. The Friars lead the BIG EAST, shooting 37.9% from beyond the arc, while Creighton is second at 34.7%. Not surprisingly both teams also defend the three-ball well, Creighton is second in the league in three-point defense allowing 28.8%, while Providence gives up 30.9% of treys.
The Difference has been Defense
The primary reason for the Bluejays' improvement during the 2016-17 season has been Creighton's play on defense. The Bluejays are limiting opponents to 37.8% from the field this season and just 28.8% from long range. Those numbers are the best since Creighton joined the BIG EAST in 2012-13. The last time the Bluejays finished the season holding opponents under 38% from the field was 2008-09 at 37.9%.
