Men's Tennis Starts Colorado Trip With Close Loss Against Southern Utah

Creighton picked up doubles point, falls in singles
GREELEY, Colo. -- The Creighton men's tennis team fell in a close dual against Southern Utah, 4-3 on Friday afternoon in Greeley, Colo.
The Bluejays dropped to 3-4 overall in dual action, and Southern Utah improved to 1-3.
Creighton opened the match by taking the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions.
Harrison Lang and Brooks Kendall teamed up for a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles, while Mac Mease and Alex Koca claimed a 6-2 victory at No. 2.
Lang opened singles play for the Bluejays with a straight-sets victory at No. 2, but Southern Utah won four of the final five singles matches, including three three-set matches to clinch their first victory of the season.
At No. 4 Jake Glazer won 6-3 in the opening set before dropping a pair 6-3, 6-3 to give the Thunderbirds their first point of the match.
Southern Utah took advantage of the match with another come-from-behind win at No. 6, and a straight-sets victory at No. 3.
Daniel Lopez-Rey evened the match at three points for both sides with a three-set win at No. 5. Lopez-Rey fell 4-6, but battled back for 6-4, 6-2 wins in the final two sets.
The Thunderbirds ended the match with a victory at No. 1. After Conor Tordoff defeated Armando Gandini 7-6, Gandini won 6-1 in dominating fashion to force a deciding set. Tordoff won the individual match and sealed the victory for Southern Utah with a 7-5 win in the third frame.

"Today the heavy favorite role didn't suit us well, and we weren't able to win the mental battles enough; and that falls on coaching," head coach Tom Lilly said. "We must do a better job preparing.
"Luckily for us we have another opportunity against a very good Northern Colorado team and will be one player healthier. Hopefully we learned from this and tomorrow can get back on track. "
Creighton is back in action on Saturday, as the Bluejays will play Northern Colorado at 9 a.m.
