Volleyball Jumps in AVCA Poll and RPI

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton Volleyball team will enter the 2017 NCAA Volleyball Tournament ranked 10th in the NCAA RPI listings and 15th in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll. The new figures come less than 24 hours after the NCAA Selection Committee deemed Creighton worthy of the No. 9 national seed for the 2017 NCAA Tournament.

The Bluejays climbed six spots to No. 10 in the RPI and also jumped two positions in the AVCA poll to 15th after winning a fourth straight BIG EAST Championship last weekend. The Bluejays are 25-6 overall as they enter their sixth straight NCAA Tournament this weekend.

Creighton is 57-16 all-time when playing as a ranked team in the AVCA poll. The Bluejays have now been ranked in 35 all-time polls, and are one of 16 clubs to be ranked in each of the last 21 editions. The Bluejays have been in every poll since Oct. 31, 2016.

The Bluejays, who have played the nation's fourth-toughest schedule according to the NCAA, have faced seven teams that are ranked in this week's poll (No. 6 Kentucky, No. 10 Washington, No. 14 USC, No. 16 Purdue, No. 19 Kansas, No. 20 Wichita State and No. 22 Iowa State).

Penn State remained in the top spot in the national rankings with all 64 first-place votes. Texas, Florida, Stanford and Nebraska round out the top five.

Creighton also rose three spots to 10th in the VolleyMob.com poll, while leaping three spots to 26th in the PrepVolleyball.com poll.

Creighton will host three matches this weekend at D.J. Sokol Arena in Omaha. No. 25 Missouri State meets No. 12 Michigan State at 4 p.m. on Friday, followed by Creighton's 7 p.m. contest against Coastal Carolina. The winners from each match on Friday will meet at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
