Martin Eighth After Matching School Record at Regionals; Status For NCAA's Announced Saturday

Emily Martin could be Creighton's first runner ever headed to the NCAA meet.
Ames, Iowa - Creighton women's cross country junior Emily Martin finished in an impressive eighth of 225 runners at the NCAA Midwest Regional in Ames, Iowa, on Friday. Not only did her time of 20:22.8 equal the existing school record for a 6K race, but could make her the first cross country runner in Creighton history to qualify for the national meet.
Martin's status for the national meet will be announced on Saturday.
Martin's time matched Lauren Ogg's previous school record, and also gave the junior the best finish in program history for a Bluejay at the Regional meet.
The women finished in 14th out of 33 teams with a team score of 372. This was the women's team's best score at Midwest Regionals ever. The team finished seven points behind Oklahoma and 23 points ahead of South Dakota State. The Bluejay women also finished 135 points ahead of Nebraska. Missouri's Karissa Schweizer won the meet with a time of 19:50.9.
Following Martin was junior Megan Paule who placed in 66th place with a time of 21:24.5. This was also Paule's fastest time on the year as well. After Paule was Adriana Kammerer with a time of 21:33.7 which earned her 83rd place. Next was senior Grace Mimmack in 81st, running a 21:45.5. After Mimmack was fellow senior Maile Shigemasa with a time of 21:54.4. This time earned her the 115th place.
Freshman Amy Leasure was next for the Bluejays in 171st place after running a 22:33.1. After Leasure was sophomore Caroline Press in 177th, running a 22:35.5.
The men's team finished 27th out of 28th with a score of 810 in the 10K. They finished six points ahead of Southeast Missouri State and 51 points behind SIU Edwardsville. BIG EAST rival DePaul finished in 24th place with a score of 692. Junior Spencer De Jong led the way with a 152nd place showing and a time of 31:53.22.
Just behind De Jong in 158th place was Ty Medd with a time of 32:00.4. Following Medd was senior Jacob Ohnstad with a time of 32:10.8 in 165th place. Split by a DePaul runner, two places later was sophomore Chase Howard in 167th after running a 32:15.8. After Howard was Nicholas Monkemeyer whose time of 32:23.8. In 179th place was senior Jake Landreth who ran a 33:05.7. After Landreth was freshman Chris Smith in 190th place which was earned by a time of 34:14.4.
The men close the season with Friday's result. Martin's invite in the NCAA Nationals is still to be determined pending other results from around the country.
