Women's Basketball Outlasts Northern State in Exhibition Contest, 68-63

Omaha, Neb. -- Led by a combined 39 points from the trio of Jaylyn Agnew, Audrey Faber and Sydney Lamberty, the Creighton women's basketball team outlasted Northern State 68-63 on Wednesday, Nov. 1.
Both teams came out firing, missing just three shots combined through the first four minutes. The result was a 10-10 tie with 6:08 left on the clock. Neither offense was able to keep up the pace, but Creighton got the better of the five six minutes to take a 20-15 edge after one period.
Northern State pulled even early in the second behind a 7-2 run, but the Bluejays answered with nine straight points to surge ahead 31-22. Junior Brooke Kissinger got things started with a three-pointer from the left. Following a free throw by Agnew and a bucket from freshman Tatum Rembao, Kissinger knocked down another trey. Moments later senior Bailey Norby hit another three ball to push the lead to double-digits at 36-24 with 2:39 on the clock. The Bluejays went on to take a 43-30 lead in at halftime.
A hard fought third period saw Northern State trim the lead down to eight at 53-45 (1:43), but Creighton closed the period with six straight on a three-pointer from sophomore Olivia Elger, a free throw from Agnew and a bucket in the closing seconds by Faber to send the game to the final frame with the Bluejays up 59-45.
Creighton scored the first bucket the fourth as Lamberty converted an uncontested layup, but Northern State rattled off the following 16 points to tie the score at 61-61 with 2:51 left. Down the stretch the Bluejays responded with seven consecutive points to lead 68-61 with 18 seconds.
Agnew led Creighton with 15 points, while both Faber and Lamberty closed the game with 12 points.
Creighton will open the 2017-18 season on Friday, Nov. 10 as the Bluejays host Wichita State at 11:30 am in Creighton's Cox Kids Day at D.J. Sokol Arena.
