Women's Tennis Claims Pair Of Victories During Day One of ITA Central Regional

Ashley Ishimura and Darby Rosette paired up for a doubles victory, Michaela Henne wins singles match
LAWRENCE, Kan. -- The Creighton women's tennis team earned two victories during day one of the 2017 ITA Central Regionals on Thursday, hosted by the University of Kansas.Â
The duo of Ashley Ishimura and Darby Rosette opened the day with a doubles victory, and Michaela Henne claimed a win during singles play.
Ishimura and Rosette needed a tiebreaker to defeat a pair from Oklahoma. The Bluejay pair outlasted the Sooners' Malene Stripp and Camila Romero 7-5 during the deciding game to advance to the round of 32.Â
Henne squeezed out a 7-5 opening set win against Missouri's Mackenzy Middlebrooks before winning 6-3 in the second frame to claim the straight-sets victory.
Henne and Erin Epperson also went to a tiebreaker during doubles action, but fell to the No. 7-seed pair from Arkansas. Mia Jurasic and Ana Operenovic earned a 6-2 win in the tiebreaker.
Epperson and Rosette each fell to seeded opponents during singles actions, while Ishimura dropped a three-set match.
Epperson lost 6-1, 6-1 against No. 3 seed and No. 62 ranked Leolia Jeanjean (Arkansas) and Rosette fell 6-3, 6-2 to sixth-seeded Zoe Douglas (Iowa).
After facing Stripp (Oklahoma) during doubles action, Ishimura and Stripp also matched up during singles play. The Creighton junior won he first set 6-2, but lost by the exact score during the second. The Sooner senior outdualed Ishimura with a 6-1 win during the deciding frame.
"We played some great doubles at times with both tams in position to beat very talented opponents," head coach Tom Lilly said. "It was a great finish by Darby and Ashley to advance, and for Michaela to defeat a high-quality opponent in singles.
"We hope to continue better tomorrow in doubles and all singles matches."
The Central Regional continues in Lawrence, Kansas on Friday morning.Â
