Bluejay Women's Soccer Falls to Butler, 3-0

Omaha, Neb. -- The Creighton women's soccer squad dropped a 3-0 decision to #22 Butler on Thursday, Oct. 19.
The loss moved the Bluejays to 3-10-3 on the season and 1-4-2 in BIG EAST play, while Butler improved to 11-4-1 overall and 4-0-3 in conference action.
The Bulldogs controlled possession throughout most of the first period, pulling ahead in the 11th minute. The goal came with 10:24 showing on the clock as Caitlyn Disarcina collected a deflected shot by Breann Pempek, then powered a goal in from 12 yards away.
Despite holding a 13-1 edge in shots during the opening frame, Butler was unable to push across a second goal in the first half.
In the 29th minute of play, Creighton came within inches of knotting the match at 1-1, when sophomore Taryn Jakubowski's corner entry was headed away by Butler's Annika Schmidt just before it crossed in for a goal.
Down 1-0 when play resumed, Creighton showed more aggressiveness on offense. Creighton fired 12 shots in the second period to just six from Butler. However it was the Bulldogs that found the back of the net two as Paige Monaghan scored in the 81st and 83rd minutes to secure the Butler win.
Butler held a 19-13 edge on shots, while the two squads each earned five corner opportunities.
Creighton is back in action on Sunday, Oct. 22 as the Bluejays face Marquette in Milwaukee at 1 pm.
