Omaha, Neb. -- After seizing a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute, the Creighton women's soccer team was forced to settle for a 1-1 draw with Kansas State on Friday, Sept. 2.
Following Friday's action the Bluejays are 2-1-2 on the season, while Kansas State moved to 1-2-2.
A tandem of freshman put Creighton on the board as Taryn Jakubowski from deep in the Bluejay offense along the right side into the penalty box. With the Wildcats' defense closing in, she centered a pass to Caeley Lordemann outside the top of the box. The Colorado native drove home the goal from 25-yards out, tallying her team-leading third goal of the season.
The score remained 1-0 through halftime and deep into the match. Creighton had a series of chances to put the match away, the closest chance came on an open net as a shot from senior Lauren Sullivan from almost 40 yards out skimmed over the crossbar.
With less than five minutes remaining, Kansas State found the equalizer as Laramie Hall drove home a centered pass from Tatum Wagner with 85:04 showing on the clock. Hall beat Bluejay goalkeeper, McKenzie Meola, from 10-yards out.
Creighton seemed poised to answer back with the closing moments, when Sullivan was fouled in the box. The Bluejays, however, were denied when the penalty kick sailed wide right.
Creighton closed the match with a 16-15 shot edge and created five corners to the Wildcats' three.
The Bluejays are back in action on Sunday, Sept. 4 as Creighton travels to Brookings, S.D. to face South Dakota State at 1:00 pm.
