Scouting No. 8 Creighton (1-0-0)
The Bluejays opened the season with a 2-0 victory at No. 25 Rutgers on Aug. 26.
Lucas Stauffer and Riggs Lennon each scored as Creighton held a 22-4 advantage in shots.
The Bluejays originally scheduled home-opener on Monday against San Francisco was canceled due to inclement weather.
Creighton returns five starters and 10 lettermen from last year's team that advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals for a second straight season, led the nation in wins (19) and finished No. 6 in the year-end NSCAA poll.
The Bluejays were picked as the favorite to win the BIG EAST this season. Â
Senior Ricardo Perez returns as the leading goal-scorer and with the most experience in a Bluejay uniform of any player on the 2016 roster. Perez notched six goals, including four game-winners, during 2015 and has played in 66 matches (46 starts) at Creighton. The Ciudad Juarez, Mexico native, claimed a spot on the 2016 All-BIG EAST Preseason Team.
Senior Myles Englis and junior Ricky Lopez-Espin will also look to lead the Bluejay offense.
Lucas Stauffer (Preseason All-BIG EAST), Peter Prescott and Mitch LaGro return to guide a defense which held opponents to 0.83 goals per game and recorded nine shutouts during 2015.
With the loss of three All-Americans, including MAC Hermann Finalist Fabian Herbers, Creighton welcomed 12 newcomers for the 2016 season, including senior tranfers Alex Kapp (Boston College) and Riggs Lennon (Virginia).
Scouting No. 2 Clemson (2-0-0)
The Tigers opened the season with a pair of 2-1 wins during the opening weekend of the season.
Clemson defeated South Carolina 2-1 in Columbia, S.C. on Friday before dropping Providence by the same score on Sunday at home.
Diego Campos led the way for the Tigers with a pair of goals through the first two matches.
Clemson returns seven starters from a 2015 team that finished the season 17-3-4 as the national runner-up.
Series History vs. Tigers
Creighton and Clemson have met only once previously. The Tigers defeated the Bluejays 1-0 on Dec. 2, 2005 in the quarterfinals of the 2005 NCAA Tournament. Â
Scouting Nebraska-Omaha (1-1-0 as of 8/31)
The Mavericks opened the season with a weekend split. UNO defeated San Francisco 3-1 on Friday night before falling at Connecticut 2-0 on Sunday.
Freshman Elvir Ibisevic tallied the game-winning goal and recorded an assist against the Dons.
The Mavericks return eight starters and 13 letterwinners from a 2015 squad that ended the season 9-6-3 overall.
Nebraska-Omaha head coach Jason Mims was an assistant coach at Creighton from 2001-2009.
Series History vs. Mavericks
Monday marks the first regular-season match between the Bluejays and Mavericks as Division I soccer opponents.
Creighton and Nebraska-Omaha met seven times in the regular season during the late 1970s and early 1980s, but the Mavericks were not a Division I squad at that time.
The Bluejays went 4-3-0 against UNO during those meetings.
Season-Opener Victory
Creighton opened the 2016 campaign with a 2-0 victory over Rutgers on Aug. 26. Lucas Stauffer converted a penalty kick before Riggs Lennon added a second goal.
The Bluejays held a 22-4 advantage in shots and 13-4 in corner kicks.
The shutout also marked Creighton's fourth consecutive shutout in a season-opening match. The Bluejays are also unbeaten in their last 10 lid-lifters (8-0-2).
The Shots Keep Coming
Creighton's 22 shots against Rutgers were the most in a season-opener since the Bluejays tallied 23 to open the 2004 season against Western Michigan.
The previous high for an Elmar Bolowich coached Creighton team was 21 in the 2013 season-opener against Tulsa.
Creighton also had 10 shots on goal against the Scarlet Knights, the most in a lid-lifter since Creighton had 11 against Northern Illinois in 2012.
Corner Kicks Galore
The Bluejays opened the season with 13 corner kicks on Aug. 26. That total marked the most in a single game for Creighton under Elmar Bolowich, and the most since recording 15 at SMU on Nov. 21, 2010.
Creighton's previous high under Bolowich was 12 on Oct. 24, 2015 against Villanova.
Turning Two A Good Start
Creighton has not lost either of its first two matches in any of the previous nine seasons. In that time, the Bluejays have started 2-0-0 six times and 1-0-1 on three occasions.
Home Lid-Lifter Cancellation
Creighton's originally scheduled home-opener set for Aug. 29 against San Francisco was canceled because of inclement weather.
The last Creighton home match not played on its scheduled date was a contest against South Florida scheduled for Dec. 3, 2011. The match was postponed by a blizzard.
Stauffer Earns BIG EAST Honor
Lucas Stauffer earned BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honors after helping the Bluejays hold Rutgers to four shots during the season-opener.
He also converted the game-winning goal with a penalty kick, his fourth career game-winner.
