Omaha, Neb. - Junior Daniel Woodrow and senior Nick Highberger were each selected in the Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft on Saturday, June 11. Woodrow was chosen by the Detroit Tigers in the 12th round, overall pick No. 355, while Highberger was selected by the Oakland Athletics in the 30th round (No. 892).
Woodrow and Highberger joined junior Nicky Lopez, who was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 5th round of the MLB Draft on Friday. The last time Creighton had three players selected in the same draft was 2014, when Jake Peter, Mike Gerber and Bryan Sova were selected.
Woodrow closed the 2016 as the BIG EAST leader with 79 hits and a .343 batting average. Daniel's 32 stolen bases led the Bluejays and were the most for Creighton since Chad Meyers set the school record with 52 swiped bags in 1995.
Highberger was 2-1 with a 3.20 ERA in 28 appearances during his senior season. Nick closed his four seasons as a Bluejay second with a career ERA just under 2.70.
