Men's tennis standout owns perfect 4.00 GPA
OMAHA, Neb. -- Junior Harrison Lang of the Creighton men's tennis team has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District VII Men's At-Large First Team.
Lang's is Creighton's first CoSIDA Academic All-District selection in men's tennis since Chris Miller following the 2006-07 campaign.
The CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. District VII consists of student-athletes from the states of Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming. The Men's At-Large Team consists of student-athletes that participate in golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling. Lang will move on to the Academic All-America ballot later this month.
In the classroom, the Niwot, Colo., native holds a 4.00 GPA while studying biology, and has been on the Dean's List every semester since enrolling at CU in the fall of 2013.
This isn't the first academic honor for Lang, who was also named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete Team following the 2014-15 season.
Lang led Creighton with 12 singles victories in the recently-completed 2015-16 season. He went 12-6 at No. 3 singles, and also was 7-8 in doubles action while splitting time with partners Brooks Kendall, August Nysted and Aaron Chalstrom. Coached by Tom Lilly, Creighton went 10-10 overall, including a win over Butler at the BIG EAST Championships.
Last year Jennie Hartjes from Creighton's women's tennis team went on to be named a Third Team CoSIDA Academic All-American.
