OMAHA, Neb. -- The NCAA has recognized seven Creighton teams for its Academic Progress Rate during the 2014-15 academic year.
Creighton's men's cross country, men's golf, men's tennis, women's softball, women's basketball, women's cross country and women's tennis teams earned the APR Public Recognition Award in the NCAA's latest rankings released Wednesday. To qualify, teams must rank in the top 10 percent nationally in the APR of their sport.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. Â The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance. Â
This is the fifth straight honor (and seventh overall) for women's tennis. The women's basketball and men's tennis teams have both been honored three straight years, while the men's golf and men's cross country have been honored for a second consecutive year. This is the first honor for the softball team, while the women's cross country team has been honored seven times after picking up its first accolade since 2009-10.
Each year, the NCAA tracks the classroom performance of student-athletes on every Division I team through the annual scorecard of academic achievement, known as APR. The rate measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or quarter and provides a clear picture of the academic performance in each sport. The most recent APRs are multi-year rates based on scores from the 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 academic years.
A perfect score (or graduation rate) is represented by 1,000, while a 925 (50 percent rate) marks the threshold for which the NCAA can impose sanctions on athletic programs.
Multiyear APRs for all Division I sports teams, including the teams receiving public recognition, will be announced April 20.  That announcement also will include APP penalties for low-performing teams, teams subject to postseason ineligibility and head coach APRs.  As in past years, you will be notified prior to this public release of scores, postseason ineligibility and penalties.
Creighton's student-athletes owned a 3.38 cumulative GPA after the fall 2015 semester.
