Creighton vs. North Daktoa Series
Creighton leads the overall series with the Fighting Hawks, 9-2. The Bluejays have won the last six meetings between the two teams.
Scouting the Fighting Hawks (2016: 3-7, 0-0 Western Athletic)
After taking two of three from #12 Southern California to open the season, North Dakota has lost six of its last seven games. The lone victory for the Fighting Hawks was a 7-2 win over Saint Louis on Sunday, March 13.
The Fighting Hawks Friday night starter, Zach Muckenhirn, has been impressive this season. Mcukenhirn opened the season with a three-hit shutout of the Trojans and followed that with a strong outing against Alabama. The southpaw has a 1.59 ERA in three games.
Offensively North Dakota has struggled this season, hitting just .232 as a team. The top two hitters for the Fighting Hawks are Miles Lewis (.350) and Tyler Midas (.300).
Lacy Hitting His Spots Thus Far
Bluejay ace Rollie Lacy has displayed pinpoint control through his first four start, not allowing a walk through his first 21 innings of work.
Bluejays Have Won 9 of Last 10
After starting the season with three losses at Fresno State, Creighton has won 9-of-10 to move to 9-4.
The Bluejays also put together a streak of nine wins in ten games last season, from March 11-29.
Elongated Home Stretch
As the Bluejays do most seasons, Creighton opened the year with 11 consecutive road games.
The schedule now has brought about a long home stand as the Bluejays are in the midst of 23 consecutive games in the state of Nebraska.
The lone road game during this stretch will be in Lincoln against the Huskers on March 29.
Righting the Lefties
The quartet of left-handed hurlers in the Bluejay bullpen have had a renaissance during the 2016 season.
Last year Jeff Albrecht, Will Bamesberger, Sam Norman and John Oltman combined for a 1-2 record and a 5.10 ERA in 47.2
innings over 50 appearances.
This season the quartet have 22 appearances in 13 games, accounting for a 2-0 mark and a 0.81 ERA in 22.1 innings.
One of the main differences is control. Last season the four issued 44 walks, while this season that total is at just five.
Back-to-Back Saves Once More for Gerber
Junior David Gerber picked up saves three and four in consecutive contests to help the Bluejays sweep UAB on Match 12 & 13.
Gerber recorded scoreless frames in each game for the save. It is the second time during the 2016 season that Gerber has picked up the save in consecutive contests.
Three Straight Saves
While Gerber closed out the final two games against the Blazers, senior Connor Miller picked up his first save as a Bluejay in the series opener on Friday, March 11.
Creighton recorded three consecutive saves by multiple players just once last season as Jack Rogalla closed out Villanova on May 15 and Gerber nabbed saves against Villanova on May 16 and Seton Hall on May 21.
The last time one Bluejay saved three consecutive contests was in 2011 when Kurt Spomer converted saves against Iowa (May 17) and Missouri State (May 19 & 20).
