Creighton opponent is all to familiar as the Bluejays will battle South Dakota in Vermillion, S.D. on Wednesday, March 16. The Bluejays and Coyotes also met in the first round of the WNIT last season, with South Dakota earning a 68-58 victory over Creighton.Creighton and South Dakota have met 21 times overall, with the Bluejays holding a 12-9 edge. The Bluejays, however, are just 3-6 in Vermillion, S.D.
Creighton enters Wednesday's contest with a 17-17 record (8-10 in BIG EAST play), while South Dakota closed the 2015-16 regular season with a 26-6 record.
Entering the BIG EAST Tournament as the No. 7 seed with a 14-16 mark on March 5, the Bluejays won three games in three days to advance to the BIG EAST Championships game. Freshman Audrey Faber and junior MC McGrory are the Bluejays leading scorers this season with 12.9 ppg and 12.5 ppg, respectively.
The Coyotes were the regular season champions of the Summit league with a 15-1 record in conference play, but fell to their in-state rival South Dakota State in the conference tournament final. Nicole Seekamp and Tia Hemiller led South Dakota this season with 16.3 ppg and 10.5 ppg.
The time of Wednesday's game has not yet been set, the Creighton/South Dakota winner will advance to face the victor in a battle between Minnesota/Milwaukee.
