Keller, Sparrow Bring Creighton's 2016 MLS Draft Total To Four Players

BALTIMORE, Md. — Creighton's Vincent Keller and Connor Sparrow were selected in the third and fourth rounds, respectively, of the 2016 MLS SuperDraft on Tuesday, bringing the program's number of MLS draftees this year to four.
Keller, a First Team All-BIG EAST and NSCAA Third Team All-America selection as a senior, was selected by the Chicago Fire with the 16th pick of the third round (57th overall). Fellow senior Connor Sparrow was drafted just seven picks later, going to Real Salt Lake with the fourth pick of the fourth round (65th overall). Sparrow posted a 19-4 record this season en route to being named BIG EAST Co-Goalkeeper of the Year and earning NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region First Team honors.
Teammates Fabian Herbers (No. 6 to Philadelphia Union) and Timo Pitter (No. 33 to FC Dallas) were selected in the SuperDraft last week.
With Keller and Sparrow helping guide the defensive unit, the Bluejays were ranked atop the NSCAA Top 25 poll for a program-best eight consecutive weeks (Sept. 8-Oct. 27) and later clinched the program's fourth national quarterfinal appearance in five years with an NCAA Third Round victory at North Carolina on Nov. 28.

A four-year starter for the Bluejays, Keller made 82 career appearances and received 75 starting nods. The senior co-captain matched a career single-season high with four assists, and helped anchor a Creighton defense that recorded eight shutouts in its first ten matches and allowed just 19 goals on the year. Sparrow played 4,122 of a possible 4,142 minutes in goal for Creighton over the past two seasons, finishing his Bluejay career as the program's all-time leader for win percentage at .797 (37-9-4).
