Omaha, Neb. - Creighton Baseball head coach Ed Servais officially unveiled the Bluejays' 2016 schedule on Tuesday, Dec. 15, featuring 28 games in the friendly confines of TD Ameritrade Park Omaha (TDAPO).
The Bluejays typically open the season with a run of road contests in warm weather climates and 2016 will be no different. Creighton opens the season against the 2008 CWS Champions, Fresno State, in a three-game series with the Bulldogs in California from Feb. 19-21. The following two weekends see the Bluejays fly south to battle Stetson (Feb. 26-28) in Florida and Murray State (March 4-6) in Kentucky. The season-long 11-game road trip concludes with single contests at Kansas (March 8) and at Kansas State on March 9.
Creighton will see its first game action at TDAPO on March 11 as the Bluejays host UAB for the three-game set. Including the battles with the Blazers, Creighton will play 23 consecutive games in Nebraska. After the series with UAB (March 11-13), Creighton welcomes North Dakota (March 18-20), hosts Kansas State (March 22) and Kansas (March 23) then faces Stony Brook in a three-game set (March 25-27).
The only road game of the stretch of 23 contests is the beginning of Creighton's annual three-game series with Nebraska on March 29 in Lincoln, Neb. The Huskers and Bluejays face off in TDAPO on April 12 and April 26.Â
Creighton returns home for a series with Jacksonville (April 1-3), then hosts Seton Hall to open BIG EAST play from April 8-10. A single-game with South Dakota State comes on April 13, then the Bluejays wrap up their long home stretch against Butler from April 15-17.
The Bluejays game outside of their home state in over a month sends Creighton to Fayetteville to battle the Arkansas Razorbacks on April 19. Creighton follows with a three-game series at BYU (April 22-23). A quick two-game home stand features Nebraska (April 26) and Air Force (April 27), before Creighton plays its first road game in the BIG EAST at Villanova (April 29 - May 1).
After returning home to face Georgetown (May 6-8), Creighton renews its rivalry with Wichita State on May 13 in Kansas. Three more road contests follow at Xavier (May 13-15), before the Bluejays' senior day contest against Omaha on May 17. The regular season concludes with three games that could very well decide the BIG EAST regular season title as Creighton (2014 Champions) face St. John's (2015 Champions) in Queens, N.Y.
Following the regular season, the top four teams in the BIG EAST will meet in Aberdeen, Maryland to decide which squad will earn the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament from May 26-29.
