OMAHA, Neb. - Behind 7.2 innings of one-hit ball from freshman Matt Warren, the Creighton Baseball team downed South Dakota State, 7-1, on Wednesday, May 8.

The win lifted the Jays to 26-13 on the season, while the Jackrabbits fell to 25-17 overall.

Warren gave the Bluejays a huge boost, holding the Jackrabbits to just an unearned run on one hit and three walks to earn his second win (2-2) of the season.  Warren faced the minimum (21 batters) through seven innings.

Behind Warren the Jays got on the board in the bottom of the first on a wild pitch.  Junior Federico Castagnini drove a one-out single through the right side, then scampered to third on a two-out knock by senior Alex Staehely.  SDSU starter, Shane Kraemer, uncorked a wild pitch to put Creighton up 1-0.

The Jays added a run in the second on an RBI single through the left side from freshman Tommy Clouthier to plate senior Brennan Murphy, who reached on a bunt single.

Creighton continued to push their lead with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings and put the game out of reach with three in the eighth.

Castagnini, Staehely and Murphy all finished with two hits, while Castagnini drove in two in the eighth via a double to right-center.

Warren gave way to sophomore Mark Lukowski in the eighth and junior Bryan Sova worked a perfect ninth.

Creighton returns to action on Friday, May 10 as the Jays travel to play Wichita State in the first of a three game series at 6:30 p.m.
