LINCOLN, Neb. – The Creighton softball team dropped a 6-0 decision at No. 20 Nebraska Wednesday night at the Cornhuskers’ Bowlin Stadium.
Nebraska (35-10) used three home runs to score all of its runs. Creighton (26-13) managed a pair of hits and left five runners on base. Junior Ellen Homan notched the first hit of the game with an infield single to third in the second inning. Freshman Erin McGonigal recorded her first career hit in the third frame on a slap single down the left field line in her first career start.
Junior Becca Changstrom started in the circle for Creighton while the Jays’ batters went up against Emily Lockman.
After a scoreless first frame, Nebraska opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning. A one-out homer moved the Cornhuskers out in front 1-0 after two.
Neither team scored in the third frame. The Cornhuskers doubled their lead with another solo home run to run to lead off the fourth inning and make it 2-0 NU.
Nebraska took charge of the game in the bottom of the sixth. The Cornhuskers loaded the bases with two walks and an infield single before connecting on a grand slam to yield the final score.
Changstrom dropped to 19-7 with the loss while Lockman improved to 14-3 on the year.
Creighton continues a six-game road swing at Missouri State this weekend beginning with a Saturday doubleheader slated for noon.
