OMAHA, Neb. -- Christy Neneman, Nate Funk and Dan Smith were inducted into the Creighton Athletic Hall of Fame during a Monday evening banquet at the DoubleTree by Hilton Omaha Downtown Hotel.
Neneman was a star women's basketball player at Creighton who graduated in 2004, and was presented by her former head coach, Jim Flanery.
Funk was a standout men's basketball player who graduated in 2007 and was presented by Director of Athletics, Bruce Rasmussen.
Smith was a star pitcher who wrapped up his Creighton Baseball career in 1990 after becoming a first-round pick of the Texas Rangers. He was presented by his former head coach, 2001 inductee Jim Hendry.
Connie Ryan was honored as Joseph J. Vinardi "Jaybacker of the Year".
In addition, volleyball standout Megan Bober and men's basketball sharpshooter Ethan Wragge were honored with the Carl M. Reinert, S.J., Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards.
For the third year in a row, Creighton honored its top teams in each gender. The volleyball and basketball teams shared the top women's honor, while the basketball and soccer teams shared the top men's award.
Individually, Bober (Volleyball) and Doug McDermott (men's basketball) were recognized as CU's Athletes of the Year. It was Bober's second straight honor.
