Creighton's two run third got going on consecutive singles from senior Brennan Murphy and sophomore Jake Peter. One out later the duo executed a double steal and an errant throw allowed Murphy to scamper home. Fowler plated Peter on an RBI double to center.
After giving back a run in the bottom of the third with two wild pitches, the Jays pushed their lead to 5-1 in the fourth. Freshman Ryan Fitzgerald reached second on a dropped pop up to open the frame. Fitzgerald sprinted home on Mitchell's second RBI single of the game moments later. One out later a walk by Murphy and a single from Peter loaded the bases. Junior Mike Gerber worked a four-pitch walk to give Creighton a 5-1 edge.
Omaha rallied for two runs in the fourth to trim the Jays' lead to 5-3 and the squads exchanged runs in the seventh to make it 6-4.
Creighton's seventh inning tally came on a double from senior Alex Staehely, a sacrifice and a wild pitch.
The Jays put the game away with four insurance runs in the eighth, capped by a two run single by Fitzgerald and added a run in the ninth via an RBI double from Peter.
Coming into a bases loaded, no out jam in the fourth, sophomore Mark Lukowski limited the damage to one run. Lukowski went on to allow just one run on one hit in 3.1 innings to earn the win (3-1).
Freshman Nick Highberger earned his first collegiate save with 2.2 innings of flawless relief to close out the game.
Offensively the Jays got three hits and two RBI from Mitchell as well as two RBI from Fitzgerald and Fowler.
