ARLINGTON, Texas - The Creighton softball team dropped a 3-0 contest to
host UT Arlington on the final day of the UTA Invitational at the Mavericks'
Allan Saxe Field Sunday.
Creighton
(8-6) struggled at the plate in the contest against UT Arlington (8-7) starter
Teri Lyles. Junior Blair Lowe connected on the Bluejays' only hit of the
contest, an infield single, in the bottom of the sixth.
Junior Becca Changstrom started in the circle for Creighton.
After a scoreless first inning, UT Arlington opened the scoring in the top
of the second frame. A one-out double down the left field line and a Creighton
error followed by an RBI-single allowed UT Arlington to take a 1-0 lead into
the bottom of the inning.
The host Mavericks doubled their lead in the top of the fourth. Lyles drew a
one-out walk. A pair of Creighton errors allowed the run to score to put UTA up
2-0.
The final run of the game came in the UTA fifth. After a single to begin the
inning, a pair of sacrifice bunts moved the runner to third before an
RBI-single scored the final tally of the game.
Changstrom fell to 5-3 this season with the loss.
Besides the hit by Lowe, the Jays left four runners on base after drawing
three walks in the contest.
Creighton resumes play next weekend at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla.,
beginning March 9. The Bluejays open with a doubleheader against Saint Francis
(Pa.) and North Dakota Saturday as part of an eight-game set spanning five
days.
