ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Senior Alex Staehely's six-RBI week lifted the Creighton Baseball team to a series sweep of Dallas Baptist and the MVC Player of the Week award on Monday, Feb. 18.
Staehely finished the
three-game
series at Dallas Baptist, 7-for-13 (.538). He led the Jays with six RBI, two doubles
and a .692 slugging percentage as well as a .800 on-base percentage.
The senior delivered critical hits in each contest. On Friday night,
Staehely gave Creighton a 2-1 lead with an RBI
single to center. Saturday he cleared the bases with a three-run double
to tie the score at 6-6 and in the series finale the Sugar Grove, Ill.,
native punched in two of the Bluejays’ three runs.
Staehely gave
Creighton a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth on
Sunday, then provided an insurance run in the eighth with an RBI double.
Staehely’s efforts helped Creighton sweep Dallas Baptist (DBU) at home, marking the the first time
since 2010 that the Patriots had been swept at home. Dallas Baptist had
lost 3 or less home games in a season in
five of the past nine years.
