KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Creighton men's and women's soccer teams received the
NSCAA Team Academic Award, given annually to squads who post a team
grade point average of 3.0 or higher on Friday, Nov. 16.
A total of 721 college soccer teams (221 men, 500 women) posted a team
grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA Team
Academic Award for the 2011-12 academic year. Of that
total, Creighton was one of 150 schools to have both its men's and
women's programs recognized.
The Bluejays men's squad features 14 student-athletes with a 3.0 GPA or
higher, including eight above a 3.6. The Creighton women had 17 players post a GPA over 3.0, including nine above a 3.6 and two with a perfect 4.0.
The Jays' men's season continues on Sunday, Nov. 18th as Creighton hosts Washington in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.
This is the seventh time that the Creighton men's team has earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award and the fifth consecutive season (2003, 2004, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012). The Jays' women's team has an even more impressive streak, earning the award in 11 of the past 12 seasons and 14 times overall (1997, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012).
