NORMAL, Ill. -- The
Creighton women finished 10th and the men ninth at the Missouri Valley
Conference Championships on Saturday in Normal, Ill.
Illinois
State took the women's team title with 42 points. Wichita State (83) finished
second and Southern Illinois (96) third. Bradley (112), Northern Iowa (126),
Indiana State (154), Drake (170), Evansville (179), Missouri State (213), and
Creighton (262) rounded out the team scoring.
Aliphine Tuliamuk-Bolton of Wichita State
finished first with a time of 16:59 for her second league title. Rachael
Brewer (17:31) and Elise Sigg (17:34) of Illinois State finished second and
third, respectively.
Southern
Illinois won the men's title with 34 points, Indiana State second with 40 and
Wichita State third with 96 points followed by Drake (137), Northern Iowa
(144), Illinois State (146), Evansville (157), Bradley (167), and Creighton
(273).
John Mascari
of Indiana State won individual honors with a time of 24:21. Zach Dahleen of
Southern Illinois (24:25) and Brogan Austin of Drake (24:26) finished second
and third, respectively.
For the
Bluejay men, senior Mike Hitt led the way, finishing 49th with a time
of 26:18. Freshman Garrett Kenyon was the second to cross the line for the
Jays. He finished the 8K course 52nd with a time of 26:23. Sophomore
Drew Prescott finished 59th running the course in 26:56. Sophomore Steve
Raimondi (64th, 27:19), senior Tom Shimp (66th, 27:40)
and junior Danny Diaz (67th, 28:11) all competed in the
championships.
For the
women, Courtney Sawle finished first for the Jays. The sophomore completed the
5K course in 18:58 and finished 39th. Freshmen Emily Peterson (19:24) and Emily
Mauser (19:26) finished 54th and 55th respectively.
Sophomore Meghan Barry (63rd, 19:43) and junior Meagan Wilderson (68th,
20:00) rounded out the top five.
The Jays
will take the next week off to prepare for the NCAA Midwest Regional on Nov. 9th
in Springfield, Mo.
