WICHITA, Kan. (Oct. 6)
- The Creighton women's tennis team completed day two of the MVC Women's
Tennis Individual Championship hosted by Wichita State Saturday.
After advancing to the semifinals Friday, sophomore Jennie
Hartjes dropped her match to Melanie Delsart of Southern Illinois 6-0, 6-3. Hartjes
will play in a third place match on Sunday.
Two CU sophomores earned singles victories on Saturday as Taylor
Koehrsen defeated Rachel Gillespie of Evansville 6-3, 6-3 to take fifth place
in flight six. In flight seven, Amanda Noonan knocked out Southern Illinois'
Abigail Plecki in a third-set superbreaker 6-7, 6-3, 10-7.
Senior Anna Kirshenbaum and Hartjes lost a doubles semifinal
match 8-3 to Northern Iowa in flight one. Wichita State then moved past the
Jays to take the third place trophy, 8-1.
In a flight two semifinal, the Creighton tandem of Noonan
and freshman Sam Anderson fell to a host team from Wichita State, 8-0. The Jays
came up short to Illinois State in the third-place match, 8-1.
In flight three, Creighton
junior Analese Snyder and freshman Karlin Naslund dropped a semifinal match to
Wichita State, 8-1. In the third-place match Illinois State bested the Jays'
tandem, 8-5.
The Jays wrap up the individual
tourney on Sunday.
