OMAHA, Neb. (Oct. 6) - The No. 24 Creighton men's soccer team posted its ninth consecutive shutout of a Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) opponent as senior Andrew Ribeiro scored the game-winning goal with 4:07 left in double overtime to defeat Southern Illinois Edwardsville 1-0 at Morrison Stadium Saturday night.

Just past the midway point of the second overtime session, Ribeiro scored off a header from 10 yards out after a perfect crossing pass from sophomore Jose Ribas. The goal was the first of the season for the Bluejay captain. It marked Ribas' third helper of the year.

With its first conference win, Creighton moves to 1-0-1 in league play and 7-3-2 overall.  After the loss SIUE fell to 0-1-0 in the MVC and 8-4-0 overall.

Creighton recorded seven shots on goal and held SIUE to just five. The Jays also led in shot attempts with a 23-16 advantage. Ribeiro and Zach Barnes each posted a pair of shots on goal to lead CU.

The Jays shut out an opponent for the third straight match Saturday after blanking Loyola-Chicago (Oct. 2) and Drake (Sept. 29).

The Bluejays extended their shutout streak of MVC opponents to nine straight games with the overtime win over the Cougars. The last goal surrendered to a Valley opponent by the Jays came in the conference opener last season (Oct. 12) to Missouri State at 22:54.

Creighton will be back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 9 as the Jays step out of conference play to visit Princeton at 6 p.m. (CT).
