SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- The
Creighton men's and women's cross country teams finished 11th at the
Briar Cliff Invite on Saturday. The event, hosted by Briar Cliff University,
included Nebraska schools such as Midland Lutheran, Wayne State, Concordia
University, Hastings College, Doane College and Nebraska Omaha.
Neither CU squad featured its top-seven runners that competed last weekend in Oregon at the Charles Bowles Invitational.
The Bluejay
men finished with a score of 312 and the women had a team score of 340. Nebraska Omaha
was the top women's team with a score of 38. Dordt College finished second with
a 68 and Doane (107) came in third. Sioux Falls won the men's team title with a
score of 27. Morningside College (61) completed the 8k
race second and Concordia (65) placed third.
Amanda
Vorthmann of Nebraska Omaha won the women's title with a time of 17:12. Billy
Brockmueller of Sioux Falls finished first in the men's race with a time of 25:07.
For the Bluejay
women Lauren Hintz led the way. The junior finished the 5k race 67th
with a time of 20:06. Freshman Jessica Diaz finished 75th with a
20:22 clip. Sophomore Katie Huyck and senior Izzy Squires finished 105th
and 106th respectively with identical times of 21:01.
CU freshmen
Katy Kambhu (118th, 21:29) and Victoria Banks (139th,
22:09) also competed in the Invite.
The Bluejay
men fielded an all-freshman squad led by Sam Weil, who finished 65th
with a time of 27:19. Christopher Kokotajlo finished second for the Jays. The
San Antonio native finished 74th with a time of 27:33. Just four
spots and four seconds behind Kokotajlo was Liam Powers. Daniel Poston's time
of 27:55 was good enough for 90th place. Mike Boes (142nd,
29:52) also finished the 8k race.
It will be another short turn
around for the Jays as they compete this upcoming Friday, Oct. 12 at the Bradley
Classic in Peoria, Ill.
