in Littleton, Colorado, Jon Stockton began his rowing career upon entering
college at the United States Naval Academy in the summer of 2002. While
earning a B.S. in Chemistry, Stockton rowed lightweight crew at Navy all four
years, during which the team won its first IRA National Championship and
Eastern Sprints Points Trophy (Jope Cup) with his boats winning three Eastern
Sprints Championships. Upon graduation in 2006, Stockton attended the
University of Cambridge, England and earned an M.Phil. in Chemical
Engineering. He continued his passion for rowing as a member of the
University Lightweight Eight and his college, Queens’. While in Cambridge
he also coached Homerton College women’s first boat.
After
finishing his master’s program, Stockton began a year and a half of training to
become a submariner, during which he rowed for the Saratoga Rowing Association
in Saratoga Springs, NY. After three years aboard the USS Toledo (SSN
769) and a brief hiatus from rowing, he took orders to Omaha this summer, and
joined the Omaha Rowing Association as a rower and coach. As an assistant
coach at Creighton, the 2012-2013 season will be Stockton’s first as a Bluejay.
