WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Creighton men’s golf team finished 18th at
the Boilermaker Invitational on Sunday. The 18-team tournament took place at
the par-72, 7,465-yard Kampen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex. The
Jays competed in the Big Ten dominated field along with Akron, TCU, Kent State, Drake
and Wichita State.
Creighton finished with a team score of 967. Indiana won
the team event with an 877. Iowa finished second, two strokes behind Indiana and
Kent State finished third with an 880.
Individually, Luke Guthrie of
Illinois took the top spot with a 213. Iowa’s Barrett Kelpin finished second
with a 214 and Indiana’s David Erdy came in third with a 215.
As for the Jays, Johnny Spellerberg led the way. The
freshman shot a 236 and finished tied for 59th. Senior Kevin Stanek
was second-best for the Jays. He finished tied for 67th with a 239.
Austin Miller’s 245 was enough to place the senior in a tie for 82nd.
Sophomore Daniel McKeman finished tied
for 88th with a 251 and senior Ryan Herter shot a 260 and finished
tied for 91st.
The Jays end the spring campaign at the State Farm
Missouri Valley Championships on April 30-May 1 in Hutchinson, Kan.
