OMAHA, Neb. - The Creighton women's crew team finished Saturday 2-0, defeating both Nebraska and the weather. The Bluejays got their regatta finished before the storms moved in that canceled most of the other outdoor events off the day for the Jays. Every boat raced faster and better than the April 1 race, the last time the boats competed on the water.
"I am very proud of our whole team," said head coach Daniel Chipps. " Each boat raced their best races and I saw great improvements in each boat that raced on Saturday."
The the Varsity 8, the team raced 1,850 meters with a calm wind. The Creighton 8 finished with a time of 6:21.43, winning the event. The Creighton 2nd Varsity 8 finished second with a 6:54.31 time with the Creighton Novice 8 coming in just behind with a 6:55.75 finish. Nebraska closed out the race with a 7:12.33 finish.
The Bluejays won the Varsity 4, with the top two Creighton spots separated by just over two seconds (the first boat finished at 7:52.38 and second finished at 7:54.58). The Huskers finished third with an 8:14.75 finish. The race was also 1,850 meters, but the racers faced a slight head wind.
In the final race of the day, Creighton again put up the top two times in the Novice 4. The first place boat finished with an 8:24.23 time with the second place boat, both Creighton boats, finihsed with an 8:27.42. Nebraska finished the race in 8:35.56.
