PEORIA, Ill. - Defensive heroics from sophomore Ellen Homan in the seventh inning led to offensive heroics from freshman Bri Lingl in the eighth inning as the Creighton softball team finished off a doubleheader sweep of Bradley with a 2-1 extra-inning win over the Braves in Saturday's second game at Laura Bradley Park.  The Jays won the opener 11-3 to sweep their first day of Missouri Valley Conference play.

With the game tied 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Bradley put the go-ahead run at second base with two outs and Madeline Lynch-Crumine ripped a single to left field.  Homan, who had moved in for the potential play at the plate charged and fired a strike to Amy Baker who applied the tag on Julie Sherman to cut down the game-winning runner and end the inning and force extras.

Lingl, a freshman from Schaumburg, Ill., then smashed her third home run of the year, a solo shot with one out in the top of the eighth inning.  The blast was her second extra-inning inning home run in the last week, also delivering the game-winning homer against Valparaiso last Saturday in Tempe, Ariz.

Sophomore newcomer Alexis Cantu (3-2) retired the Braves in order in the bottom of the frame to finish off an eight-inning complete game.  The right-hander allowed seven hits and walked four, but allowed just one run and struck out three for her first complete game as a Bluejay.

Lingl provided Creighton's other RBI in the fourth inning, using a bunt single to drive in Allie Mathewson who had led off the inning with a single.

Lingl enjoyed the first college games of her career played in her home state, finishing the twin bill 4-for-7 with a home run and three RBI to help lead the Jays to a sweep.

Mackenzie Camp (3-4) lost despite allowing only six hits and two earned runs in eight innings of action.  Sherman went 2-for-4 for BU and scored the Braves only run in the loss.

The Bluejays (11-10, 2-0 MVC) will look for the series sweep of the Braves (10-14, 0-2 MVC) on Sunday at noon.
