TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The
Creighton women finished 10th and the men finished ninth at the State
Farm Missouri Valley Conference Cross Country championships on Sunday. The nine- team men’s event and
the 10-team women’s event took place at the Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.
Wichita
State’s Aliphine Tuliamuk finished first on the women’s side with a time of
17:16. Drake’s Brogan Austin was the best male runner on the day with a time of
25:15. The Indiana State men won their third straight MVC title. Illinois State
won the women’s race.
The
Creighton women were again led by Meghan Barry and Courtney Sawle. The freshmen
continue their impressive debut seasons. Barry finished 32nd running
the 5k course in 19:01. Sawle finished 52nd overall with a time of
19:39. Sophomore Meagan Wilderson’s time of 20:22 was good for 68th
place.
Junior Izzy
Squires (72nd, 20:37), freshman Jessica Johnson (75th,
21:15), sophomore Lauren Hintz (76th, 21:55), and freshman Katie
Huyck (77th, 21:57) all finished strong for the Jays.
The men were
led by Chris Culhane. The junior finished 30th overall finishing the
8k course in 26:22. Senior Casey Jergenson was the second to cross the line for
the Jays. He finished 41st overall with a time of 26:47. Mike Hitt
also had a strong showing at the championships. The junior finished 52nd
overall with a time of 27:09.
Freshmen
Drew Prescott (56th, 27:32), Steve Raimondi (61st,
27:45), junior Tom Shimp (65th, 28:17), senior Joe Hamel (67th,
28:27), and sophomore Danny Diaz (69th, 28:36) also competed as well.
The Jays will
take the next couple of weeks to prepare for the NCAA Midwest Regional
Championships on Saturday, Nov. 12 in DeKalb, Ill.
