Sara Cain returns for her fourth season on the Creighton staff and her second as the Director of Basketball Operations.  Cain served as the Jays’ graduate manager from 2000-10.  Among her many duties, the former Bluejay captain is responsible for all travel arrangements, involved with film exchange, game management and camps.  She also assists in opponent film analysis and game plan preparation.

A two-year starter for the Bluejays, Cain started 64 of the 121 games she played in from 2004-08.  The forward concluded her career ranked fifth in school history in games played and eighth with a 75.9 career free throw percentage.

The Walford, Iowa, native was a McDonald’s All-American nominee at Cedar Rapids Prairie High School before attending Creighton.  Cain had a breakout junior campaign with the Jays, leading the team with 10.6 points per game, scoring more points as a junior than her first two seasons combined.  She concluded her junior season with a career-high 24 points in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament championship game and earned MVC All-Tournament Team honors for her play in the event.

As a senior, she topped the team with 19 double-figure scoring games for the second straight season, finishing with 10.5 points and a career-best 5.5 rebounds per game to earn Second Team All-MVC honors.  She was a two-time MVC Scholar-Athlete Second Team selection, and was named to the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association Scholar-Athlete Team and the ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-District VII Second Team as a senior.  A dean’s list honoree all four years, she finished her career with 894 points and 483 rebounds.

Cain’s older twin brothers, Nathan and Brett, were also collegiate athletes, playing football at Nebraska Omaha and basketball at Wayne State (Neb.), respectively, while younger sister Lindsey played basketball at Northern Iowa.

Cain earned her undergraduate degree in exercise science with a minor in biology from Creighton in 2008.

Flanery on Cain:
“Sara does everything that nobody else wants to do and a lot of the other stuff.  She is the person that holds everything together.  She cares tremendously about the program because she played here.  She values Creighton and the young women that she gets to work with.  She makes everyone else’s job easier.”
