Creighton Athletics has named Mike West as its new Director of Marketing, Sales & Promotions.
As Tournament Director of the Omaha Classic the last six years, West has been responsible for all facets of one of the BUY.COM Tour’s premier events. West developed and administered the annual budget while overseeing 12 committees and 930 volunteers. During his tenure at the tournament, sponsorship sales nearly tripled. West also developed and administered sponsorship information and acted as the primary liaison to the tournament’s advertising firm.
“We are tremendously excited to have Mike West on our staff as the Director of Sales and Marketing,” said Creighton Athletic Director Bruce Rasmussen. “The two best sports events annually in Omaha are the College World Series and the Omaha Classic. Mike has been intimately involved in every aspect of making the Omaha Classic and outstanding event for Omaha. We feel he can do the same for Creighton University athletics.”
“I feel fortunate to have a chance to work with the entire Creighton athletic department and everything they have to offer,” said West. “With the move to the new arena and a new soccer complex coming up, I feel this is another great opportunity.”
Prior to working for the Omaha Classic, West was the manager of Barrett’s Barleycorn in Omaha. Previous experience working in college athletics includes four years at Nebraska-Omaha as pitching coach for the softball team. He also worked in the Sports Information Office while completing graduate work at Wayne Sate College.
After graduating from Omaha Central High in 1984, West went to Nebraska-Omaha and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Education with an emphasis in Recreation. He went on to earn his Masters degree in Education with an emphasis in Sport Management and Athletic Administration from Wayne (Neb.) State.
West and his wife of six years, Julie, are parents of twin boys, Tyler and Trevor.
