Updated Volleyball Blog: "Killin' It With Kelli"
I'm writing this last blog a little sooner than what I would've hoped, but I can't look back on this past season and say that it was anything less than an accomplishment. I know I speak for all seniors when I say that we went out with a bang.
It's the weirdest feeling when it's all said and done. Four years seems like a long time, but looking back, it all happened so fast. A lot of people have asked me what I've learned from it all... After some thought this is what I've come up with:
1- I've learned it's all worth it. All the tears, the bruises, the floor burns, sore muscles, the missed parties, missed relationships, shortened breaks, and early mornings are worth it. You have four years to make and impact and be a part of something bigger than yourself. I wouldn't have given that up for anything.
2- I've learned you make some of the best friends out there during this time. I can honesty say that the people I've met through my years of playing are the hands down, best people I know. It's cheesy to say, but they really are family.
3- I've learned how to take criticism and learn from it. To the incoming freshman or anyone planning to play at the next level of volleyball: learn to take in the criticism and be open to seeing things from a different point of view. It's the only way you can get better.
4- I've learned how to communicate effectively. You miss a lot of school and you have to constantly be in contact with teachers, coaches, classmates and teammates. There's no way you can make it through with out having good communication, and you being the one to initiate it.
5- I've learned what supporting someone really means. We've been through a lot of ups and downs this year. On the court, off the court, in school and out of it. The support I've received from my teammates, friends and family has been amazing. Whoever said "surround yourself with people who bring out the best in you" is right. I wouldn't have been able to do it with out you guys.
I still can't believe it's over, but we can walk away with our head up knowing that we gave it everything we had. We made history ladies, and I couldn't be prouder.
Now for the thank you's: Thank you to all the fans, Creighton definitely has the best fan base in the NCAA, and you guys have made playing at home so memorable. I want to thank the coaches who have put up with me for the last four years, I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed playing for you (even though you made me do all that footwork). I also want to thank my family, specifically my parents and Sam for the unwavering support.
Alright, alright, I'll wrap it up.... But before I do I have to say that it has been a privilege to play next to these girls who I am lucky enough to call my friends and teammates, and it has been an absolute honor to represent Creighton in this way. Thanks for "Killin' it with Kelli" this past season. You haven't heard the last of me.

Hello family, friends and fans of Creighton volleyball! We are officially your 2014 BIG EAST CHAMPS!!!!!!!! Let me tell you, it feels pretty good. This has been our goal since last January and to finally have it accomplished feels amazing. We had some tough matches this past weekend, but in my opinion played some of the cleanest ball yet this year. We're feeling pretty good, and very excited going into this NCAA tournament. One of the things that we were most excited for after winning was the trophy and big east champs sign. Holding up that sign is one of the greatest feelings and we couldn't be prouder to bring it back to Omaha with us. We might've taken it a bit to the extreme, but we showed it around Omaha... We would've brought the trophy but that was way too heavy.
We can't tell you how much all of your support has meant to us this past season. It has really made all the difference in our play. Omaha truly does have the best fans in the nation! Next up: Oregon state. Lets get it jays

Hello family friends and fans of Creighton VB!!! No I have not forgotten about you, yes we have been THAT busy. I hope that you all are enjoying the second half of season as much as we are.
I don't know if you saw or kept up with the games this past weekend but we won two very tight matches against Xavier and Butler. We really enjoy giving our coach anxiety attacks, and making the game as exciting as possible. In all serious though, the games were awesome. Both consisted of two very good teams playing each other, and that kind of volleyball is always fun. I speak for the team when I say that those kinds of games show how much of a resilient team we actually are. In my opinion, I think that that has something to do with how close we are.
Now, everyone knows how weird of a team we are from the past posts I've had... But aside from that, we are a very close knit team. A decent amount of us live together...or across from each other...or in the same building, so chances are you'll see us traveling in packs (now with our big blue puffy jackets on for winter #blueberries). A good portion of us are in the same major, naturally, that means classes together too.
Currently, I spend every glorious moment with Lizzy and Ash. I don't think I could know anyone better and they know all too much about me. In honor of the weather officially turning to winter... We made this video for you on our way back from our clinical rotation. (Don't worry I promise I'm a good driver.) Welp, that's all for now. I'll do a better job of keeping you updated as things start to really pick up. Next up- Providence and St John's. CUVB TAKIN ON THE BIG APPLE!

Hello Creighton family, friends and fans!
I hope you all are doing well as the weather starts to turn on us. Just a reminder to everyone that volleyball in fact IS an indoor sport, and that we are FINALLY back at home for the next 3 weeks. We've been working hard in the gym this week and can't wait to be back playing in front of you all.
As you know, this past weekend, we played at Seton Hall and Villanova. We were given the privilege of charter flying there and back. I want to take this opportunity to thank all of those who were able to make that happen for us. We can't tell you enough how much of a difference it makes, and how much the team appreciates it. We were also able to have some fun on the trip, specifically in Philly.
As most of you know, CUVB is.... How do I put this..... Quirky? Hilarious? All of the above? Long story short, we can have fun doing anything. While we were in Philadelphia, Coach Booth let us do some sight seeing. We were able to see the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, which was an amazing experience! While we were on our tours... We decided to go hunting for the national treasure....
I don't know if you've seen the movie, "National Treasure" but Kenzie Crawford definitely give Nicolas Cage a run for his money. I was able to document the process of looking for the "national treasure".... Not entirely sure what all everyone is doing in this, or why we are talking in accents, but we had a blast.
I hope you enjoy the documentary, or at least got a good laugh. I know we did..... And yes we actually did get in trouble with security (we are THAT committed to your entertainment).
We can't wait to CU at our games this weekend vs St. John's and Providence! .....See what I did there?
As always, thanks for Killin it with Kelli! Stay classy Omaha!

Hello friends, family and fans!
I hope you all are doing well and enjoying the start Big East season, I know we are! It feels good to be back to conference play and we are all extremely excited about the upcoming conference season. We are constantly being challenged and enjoy playing all of our opponents. It's just an added bonus that we'll be getting to go to some pretty cool places too (*cough *cough My hometown, Milwaukee).
It has been an insanely busy past 2 weeks for us. A lot of people have asked us, HOW DO YOU DO IT?! How do you balance volleyball AND school?! Well, it's not easy, but seeing as we are superhuman volleyball players, we make it work. I asked my wonderful teammates to send me some pictures of them being productive in their studies.... This is what received.
Don't worry coach, I swear we actually ARE productive. What's nice about our team is that a lot of us are in the same classes, which makes studying on the road 10x easier. We will be taking our great study habits with us on the road this weekend when we take on DePaul and Marquette!
As always, thank you for Killin it with Kelli. Stay classy Omaha.

Hello Creighton friends, family and fans!
WE ARE FINALLY BACK IN OMAHA! If you can't tell by that sentence in all caps, we are pretty excited to finally be playing at home. We can all honestly say that the Ryan center is our hands down, our favorite place to play. From the facility itself to the game time atmosphere, nothing else compares. Now in saying that, all of your better come out and support! It's going to be quite the intense weekend.
Another question that I consistently get asked after the game is- what do you guys do/ talk about in your locker room? I can't tell you what we exactly talk about, that is some top secret stuff, but I can tell you what we do.
I don't want to bore you all with some long description of how crazy/ weird we are. So this past weekend, while we were at Kentucky, I decided to film a bit of our pregame warm up. Every team has a personality, but ours here at Creighton is pretty unique.
This first video is what you can typically find going on in our locker room before the coaches come in. Kenzie, Leah and Lizzy really kill it in this....
This next video is another level of strange.... I don't exactly know what's all going on here or how they're doing it... But it's kind of awesome. Must be some weird Marian girls thing.
Don't worry, once the coaches come in, we get down to business and focus in on what we need to accomplish come game time.
Long story short- yeah, you could say that we have a fun time before we run out onto the court.
Thank you all again for the support and for once again, killin it with Kelli. We'll see you this weekend for our FIRST games at home!

Hey there friends, family and fans of Creighton VB! A couple seasons ago, my teammate, Natalie Hackbarth, did a blog for the team through out the 2012 season. I thought I would follow in her footsteps and do the same. I hope you all are as excited for the 2014 season as we are. It is going to be quite the ride. We've been working hard in the gym and are ready to play someone other than ourselves for the weekend. Don't get me wrong, I love the competition over at the D.J. Sokol Arena, but I think we're all ready to see some new faces on the opposite side of the net.
The first question that everyone is asking is: who are these notorious newcomers? Lucky for you all, I can fill you in.
First off we have our transfer setter, Maggie Baumert. She's originally from Nebraska, but has played for Georgia the past 2 seasons. We couldn't be happier to have her on the team. She's been here since the spring, so most of us have been playing with her now for a while. She definitely keeps us cool, calm and collected in a high stress situation.
Now for our freshmen- we are still working on getting them out of their shells, but they are a fun group. Anyone can tell you their position or that they are nice, awesome girls. I'm going to fill you in on the weird quirks that we know about them so far.
Marysa Wilkinson: Hilarious. She sometimes heats up her ice cream in the microwave before eating it.... I don't understand how that makes sense, but I love it.
Brittany Lawrence: Can usually be found reppin Michael Jordan apparel at all times. She also has to eat her Skittles and M&M's individually by color. (Don't worry coach- Of course candy is only for the off-season, because now she's individually eating her carrots and broccoli)
Toni Tupper: Has to do things in multiples of three. Whether it's calling for a set, or turning up the volume on the tv. 3, is her number.
They're a great group and fit in nicely with the rest of us crazies on the team. With 2 a days now over and the official season starting, we are ready to roll up our sleeves and get to work. If you haven't seen our preseason schedule, let me tell you- it's hard. It's going to be a fun and challenging next two months, but we are up for the challenge! First up: Lipscomb, Utah Valley and Kansas.
Thanks for the support and stay tuned for more inside looks at the team!
