Women's Golf Takes 10th at Cougar Golf Classic

CHICAGO, Ill. -- The Creighton women’s golf team finished 10th at the Cougar Classic on Tuesday. The 5,914 yard par-72 Harborside International Golf Course hosted the 14-team event, which included host school Chicago State, Indiana State, Dayton and Northern Illinois among others.

Creighton finished with a team score of 649 (324 + 325), firing its two lowest rounds of the fall so far.

Tourney host Chicago State won team honors finishing at 609 (306 + 303). Indiana State finished second (315 + 297= 612) and Detroit (311 + 306 = 617) came in third.  

Individual honors went to Chicago State’s Brooke Melvin, who shot a 145 (75 + 70). Cleveland State’s Micaela Cronin finished second with a 146 (74 + 72). Melvin’s teammate Casey MacNeil (73 + 74 = 147) finished in a tie for third with Detroit’s Christina Thorne (74 + 73 = 147) 

For the Jays, Rachel Thompson finished tied for 24th with a 158 (80 + 78). Katie Morel finished tied for 40th with a 163 (79 + 84). Annie Pearson (81 + 83) finished one shot behind Morel and tied for 45th.  

Newcomer Kelsey Petersen tied for 49th with an 84 + 81 = 165. Mary Cathryn Rau (86 + 83 = 169) finished tied for 61st.

The Jays compete again on Sept. 23-24 at the Marilyn Smith/Sunflower Invitational in Manhattan, Kan.
