Bluejays' Women's Soccer Takes Down North Dakota, 6-0

OMAHA, Neb. - Keyed by five second-half goals, the Creighton women's soccer team blasted North Dakota, 6-0, on Friday, Aug. 30.

The Jays earned their first victory of 2013 in the team's home opener, moving to 1-2-0.  The loss dropped North Dakota to 0-3-0.

The Bluejays got on the board at the 12:36 mark as sophomore Kirstyn Corder stripped the ball from a North Dakota defender and fired it into the back of the net from 20 yards away.

Despite outshooting North Dakota 15-4 in the opening period, the Jays were unable to add to their 1-0 for the remainder of the first period.

Early in the second period, Creighton's second goal seemed to open the floodgates.  Sophomore Alyssa Jara fielded a pass from fellow sophomore Alissa Kohmetscher, then lofted a six-foot crossing shot past North Dakota keeper, Kristi Hestdalen to make it 2-0 at 53:00.

Just over a minute later, 54:04, senior Lauren Cingoranelli made it 3-0 with shot on the left side from 35 yards away.  Freshman Lauren Sullivan fed Cingoranelli the pass to create her open look.

Sullivan liked the assist so much, so tried her foot at a goal, connecting for an unassisted tally at 63:52.

Freshman Paige Jarsombeck notched the Jays' final two goals of the season at 68:19 from freshman Ylenia Sachau, then at 89:52 from junior Stephanie Anasi.

Creighton returns to the pitch on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 5 p.m. against Northern Colorado.  Originally scheduled for 3 p.m., the match was moved back to 5 p.m. due to excessive heat forecast for the Omaha area.

NOTES:The Bluejays six goals is the most Creighton has scored since putting in a 6-2 win over Wyoming on Sept. 17, 2010 ... The last time the Jays scored more than six goals was in a 7-0 win over Southern Utah on Oct. 18, 2010 ... Creighton's 37 shots are the most since the Bluejays fired off 38 against Grambling State on Sept. 23, 2005 (a 4-0 win).
